Charmaine Kern

Charmaine Kern, age 84 of Decorah, IA, died Thursday evening, February 9, 2017 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating. Burial will be in Locust Cemetery in rural Decorah. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, one hour before the service, at First Lutheran Church. Louise Charmaine Kern was born on February 17, 1932 at home near Locust, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the only child of Albert G. and Margie (Banning) Kern. She attended country school and then graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1954, at age 22. Charmaine worked in the kitchen at the hospital in Decorah for 29 years as a cook’s assistant. She retired in 1994. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and was active in Mary Circle, and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Charmaine enjoyed the Family Table Restaurant, the Meal Site, her neighbors and friends, and her cats – Cookies and Candy. She enjoyed her multiple, daily walks around the neighborhood. She became a resident of Wellington Place in Decorah on July 17, 2015 and she died there Thursday evening, February 9, 2017, at the age of 84. Charmaine was preceded in death by her father Albert on March 28, 1974 and her mother Margie on May 19, 1997.
