Catherine Foreman, age 91, of St. Lucas, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and also on Wednesday morning from 8:00–10:00 a.m., at St. Luke’s Historical Chapel in St. Lucas. There will be a St. Luke’s Rosary Society and Forester Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Catherine Marie (Huber) Foreman, was born on August 15, 1918, the daughter of Leo and Barb (Sluka) Huber, on the family farm near Fort Atkinson, Iowa. Catherine attended St. John’s Catholic School in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, graduating in 1936. Catherine married John F. Foreman on May 3, 1939, at St. John’s Catholic Church, and to this union, fourteen children were born. Together they farmed and raised their family one mile west of St. Lucas, Iowa. They retired from farming in 1981, and moved into St. Lucas. While on the farm, Catherine raised and canned vegetables and fruits from her garden for her family. She was an excellent cook and made delicious kolaches for all to enjoy. Catherine enjoyed embroidering, watching and feeding the birds, listening to CMT, dancing, singing with her family, playing the piano and playing cards. Catherine was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and Choir, the Rosary Society and the Foresters, as well as the St. Luke’s American Legion Auxilary. Catherine’s survivors include her fourteen children: Germaine Denner, New Hampton, IA; Ken (Holly) Foreman, Waterloo, IA; Joe (Pam) Foreman, Rosemount, MN; Dorothy Gargaro, Minneapolis, MN; Kathy (Roger) Bulgren, Northfield, MN; Arlene (Dale) Dougherty, Decorah, IA; John V. (Betty) Foreman, St. Lucas, IA; Jim (Carmen) Foreman, Apple Valley, MN; Mary Lee (Craig) Allen, Independence, IA; Marilyn (Loren) Manderfield, St. Lucas, IA; Shirley (Rick) Robinson, Tulsa, OK; Carol (Karl) McVea, Mustang, OK; Betty (Erik Aaland) Foreman, San Francisco, CA; and Duane (Kristie) Foreman, Rosemount, MN, along with forty grandchildren, fifty-four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Catherine is also survived by her two sisters: Leona Croatt, St. Lucas, IA, and Rose Crogveek, Oelwein, IA, with many other relatives and friends. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents: Leo and Barb (Sluka) Huber. Her husband: John F. Foreman on April 25, 1992. Two grandsons: Steven Michael Foreman in 1964 and Brian John Foreman in 2008. One son-in-law: John Gargaro in 1994. One brother: Phil (Eleanor) Huber. Three sisters: Mary (Bob) Mattes; Monica (Alf) Nienhaus, and Dorothy (Leo) Schmitz. Four brothers-in-law: Linus Croatt, Verdie Crogveek, Nick and Frank Foreman. Four sisters-in-law: Anna (Victor) Kuennen; Sister Crispina (Rose Foreman) O.S.F.; Sister Adelinda (Theresa Foreman) O.S.F. and Sister Carissa (Mary Foreman) O.S.F.
