Caroll Nienhaus, age 81, of Calmar, IA, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at his home in Calmar, IA. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March and Rev. Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be visitation from 9:00 a.m., until time of services at the church on Saturday morning. Caroll Legor Nienhaus was born on February 4, 1931, the son of Alfred and Monica (Huber) Nienhaus, in Fort Atkinson, IA. Caroll attended school in Fort Atkinson, graduating in 1949 from Fort Atkinson High School. Caroll served in the US Navy from 1951-1954 on the USS Mindoro. He then went to Florist School in Denver, Colorado. He worked for Hemes Greenhouse in St. Paul, MN, and then worked for at Armour Packing in South St. Paul. Caroll then worked for the State of Minnesota at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, taking care of all the horticulture. In 2004, he moved to Calmar, where he retired. Caroll enjoyed beautiful flowers, gardening, his canaries and tropical fish. Caroll was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Caroll is survived by his three sisters: Darlys Rausch, Fort Atkinson, IA; Phyllis (Kenneth) Kipp, Lawler, IA; and Mary (Donald) Kuennen, West Union, IA. Two brothers: Raymond (Roseann) Nienhaus, Fort Atkinson, IA, and Richard (Marilyn) Nienhaus, Fort Atkinson, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Caroll was preceded in death by his parents: Alfred and Monica (Huber) Nienhaus. One sister: Barb Dagit. One brother-in-law: Don Rausch.
