Carl Frederick Schick passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice in Decorah, Iowa at the age of 82. Carl was born September 27, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. Frank J. Schick and Dagny (Hoeg) Schick. During the Korean conflict, Carl served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He graduated from Iowa State University with a B.A. in Agriculture. He farmed all of his life in Pleasant Township. Later in life he enjoyed music, model trains, woodworking and flying model airplanes. Carl was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Brown on August 29, 1954 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA. To this union ten children were born: Susan, Michael, Carl Jr., Gary, Steven, David, John, Mary, Nancy and Rosemarie. Carl will be missed by his loving wife Shirley of 56 years; his ten children: Susan (Rodney) of Ridgeway, IA, Michael (Jackie) of Rochester, MN, Carl Jr. of Owatonna, MN, Gary (Jean) of Rushford, MN, Steven (Diane) of Ridgeway, IA, David (Michelle) of Eyota, MN, John (Jackie) of Dover, MN, Mary (Steve) of Chatfield, MN, Nancy (Scott) of Winona, MN and Rosemarie (Andrew) of Nevada, IA; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister Helen (Bob) Barkdoll of La Mesa, CA; and by one sister-in-law Lucille Schick of Davis, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Frank, and one grandson Kyle Baker. A Memorial Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, March 14 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. A Private Family inurnment will be held at a later date at Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.
