Carl Oyloe

Carl Oyloe, age 97, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his home in rural Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2013, at the Springfield Lutheran Church, 1969 Middle Calmar Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Olson presiding. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-6:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 27, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave, Decorah, and also after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Monday. Carl Helmer Oyloe was born on March 5, 1916, the son of Ole and Ingeborg (Sondrol) Oyloe on the family farm near Decorah, Iowa. Carl was baptized on March 19, 1916 and confirmed in 1929 at the Springfield Lutheran Church. Carl died in the same house where he was born and lived his whole life. He went to country school thru eighth grade at Woodside #5. He then started farming with his father on the family’s century farm. Carl was united in marriage to Gilma Solem on September 27, 1939, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Side by side, they farmed and raised their family in Springfield Township. Carl continued to farm with his son, Ron and then grandsons until he was into his nineties. He was also a seed corn salesman for PAG for many years. He enjoyed visiting with people, sharing his sense of humor and a laugh or two. He always treasured spending time with his family who were so dear to him. Carl was a lifelong member of the Springfield Lutheran Church. Carl is survived by his four children: Gary (Jo) Oyloe, Portland, OR; Ron (Mary) Oyloe, Decorah, IA; Karen (Ed) Kramer, Grayslake, IL; and Marc (Lana) Oyloe, Decorah, IA. Six grandchildren: Yori Oyloe, Peter Oyloe, Emily Oyloe, Sam Oyloe, Derek (Tara) Oyloe, and Jason (Crystal) Oyloe. Five great grandchildren: Ethan, Evan & Ian Oyloe, and Odessa & Luke Oyloe. One sister-in-law: Norma Oyloe, Owatonna, MN, along with many nieces and nephews and special friends, the children of former neighbors, Robert and Emma Jevne. Carl was preceded in death by his parents: Ole and Ingeborg (Sondrol) Oyloe. His wife: Gilma Oyloe. One grandson: Matthew Ronald Oyloe. Brothers and sisters: Melvin Oyloe, Orville (Stella) Oyloe and Ida (Fordyce) Ingram. Seven half-brothers: Martin, Christian, Olaf, Albert, Carl, George, and Bennie Oyloe. Four half-sisters: Anna, Jorgine, Christine, and Helen. One sister-in-law: Marlys (Morris) Hegseth. His father and mother-in-law: Peter and Marie (Horvey) Solem. Three brothers-in-law: Byron (Esther) Solem, George (Clara Jean) Solem, and Roger (Lorraine) Solem. Two nieces: Phyllis Hegseth and Judy Solem; and one nephew: Richard Solem. One great niece: Barb Oyloe.
