Betty M. Davis, age 88, of Decorah, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral services will at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Decorah, Iowa with Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Wednesday at Fjelstul Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Betty Mason Knorr Davis was born September 17, 1924, the daughter of George and Margaret (Sidler) Knorr in Danville, PA. She graduated from Pottsville High School in Pottsville, PA in 1942 and the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a graduate RN at various hospitals in the East and Mid-West. Betty was united in marriage with Don Albert Davis on August 21, 1954 in Wichita, KS, by his uncle, the Rev. Dr. L.C. Campbell. To this union two children were born: Richard and Jean. They lived in several parts of the Mid-West. She and Don and the children moved to rural Calmar on a farm in the winter of 1969. She became a volunteer at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in 1971; it was a very important new stage of her life. Betty retired from volunteering when she was 80, in 2004. She was a member of Friends of the Decorah Public Library and an active member of Children’s Club. She enjoyed meeting and greeting people, especially little children. Betty was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved with United Methodist Women, Church Circles and she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Don on February 25, 2007. Betty is survived by two children: Richard (Robin) Davis of Decorah, IA and Jean Davis of Des Moines, IA; one grandson, Evan Brainard of Decorah; one sister, Marguerite Yourshaw of Pottsville, PA; and nieces and nephews.
