Bernard D. Coonradt, age 66, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Joan A. Mau officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring of 2009 in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah with full military honors. Visitation is after 12:00 Noon Saturday, one hour before services, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Bernard David Coonradt was born July 22, 1942, in Decorah, IA, the son of Bert Dean and Mildred Marie (Morris) Coonradt. Bernie attended Decorah High School until he entered the U.S. Army on October 14, 1959. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1962. He later acquired his G.E.D. Bernie worked at Wicks Construction and then Carlson’s for many years as a concrete finisher. Then he worked at Featherlite in Cresco, IA, until his retirement. He had a great passion for golf. He enjoyed fishing, building things and working with wood, and entertaining friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David A. Berg and Robert L. Berg; and two sisters, Betty Jean Swehla and Dorothy Mae Johnson. Bernie is survived by his four sons: Brian Coonradt of Hawkeye, IA, David (Lori) Coonradt of Cedar Falls, IA, Robert (Samantha) Coonradt of Castalia, IA and William (Faith) Coonradt of Amboy, MN; eight grandchildren: Nate, Kyle and Zack Coonradt, Natasha, Stacia, CKaiden and CKeelie Coonradt, and Samantha Coonradt; one sister, Jerrine (Karl) Jacobsen of Decorah, IA; and two brothers, Arnold Berg of Decorah, IA and Alvin (Marilynn) Berg of Vancouver, WA.
