Beatrice A. Tilleros, age 94, of Decorah, IA, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah with Rev. David H. Andreae officiating. Burial will be in Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, one hour before the service, at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Beatrice Arletta (Severide) Tilleros was born February 21, 1919 at home in rural Pleasant Township, the daughter of Adolph and Bertine (Sanderson) Severide. She attended rural schools in Winneshiek County. She was baptized and confirmed at the Big Canoe Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church under the guidance of Pastor T.O. Tolo. On December 16, 1939 she was united in marriage with Kittle Isaak Tilleros at the Big Canoe Parsonage by Pastor Wm T. Hexom. To this union a son was born, Richard Thomas. The couple farmed in the Hesper and Big Canoe areas. In the 1950’s Kittle and Beatrice purchased a farm just a short distance from the Severide farm where she, along with three generations of her family, had lived. Their new farmyard had a beautiful view across the Pine Creek Valley, which they enjoyed. After they moved off the farm, Kittle and Beatrice lived in Hesper before moving to Decorah. Beatrice enjoyed reminiscing about walking across the Pine Creek Valley from the Severide farm to the Sattre School and remembering the way things were done during her early years. Her excellent memory, even in the final weeks of her life, made her a great resource for younger generations. As a life-long member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church, she was active in the Ladies Aid and the Priscilla Circle. She cherished monthly visits from Pastor Andreae, which permitted her to maintain a connection with the church and its members. Although Beatrice’s eyesight had diminished in recent years, she especially enjoyed visits and phone calls from family and friends that allowed her to keep up with their activities. Throughout her life, she knew and remembered much about her family including grandchildren, great grandchildren and both great and great-great nieces and nephews. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kittle on December 25, 1994; son, Richard on March 9, 2003; sisters: Adeline Amdahl of Mable, MN, Helen Heier of Decorah, IA and brothers: Arnold Severide of Cedar Rapids, IA and Raymond Severide of Decorah, IA. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Ellen Tilleros of Jackson, TN; grandson, Steven (Virginia) Tilleros and their children Samuel, Lucas, and Thomas, all of Jackson, TN; granddaughter, Susan (Mark) Escue and their children Calvin, Jacob, Jonathan and Adam of Medina, TN; her sister, Thelma Espeseth of Madison, WI; sister-in-law, Jane Severide of Cedar Rapids, IA; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be given to Big Canoe Lutheran Church, 1381 Big Canoe Road, Decorah, Iowa 52101.
