August “Augie” Shindelar, age 56, of Chester, IA, died on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the Heritage Events Center, 229 3rd Avenue West, Cresco, IA, with Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson presiding. Friends may call from 2:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Heritage Events Center, 229 3rd Avenue West, Cresco, IA. August “Augie” Joseph Shindelar, Jr., was born on March 13, 1958, the son of August and Regina (Phillips) Shindelar in Decorah, IA. Augie attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and South Winneshiek High School. He served in the US Navy in California and Virginia, serving with the 21st Destroyer Squadron aboard the Destroyer Ship Turner Joy. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1981. After the service, Augie worked in security and remodeling homes in Beverly Hills, CA. He was united in marriage to Kathy Griffin on July 4, 1984, in Las Vegas, and they later divorced in 2004. Augie returned to Iowa and has worked for Featherlite in Cresco for twenty-three years. He also enjoyed helping area farmers and doing odd jobs for anyone that needed a hand. Augie married Denise Cook Farley on Nov. 18, 2006, in Chester, IA. Augie enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, and especially woodworking. Augie had a generous heart and loved doing things for others. Most of all, Augie loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all. Augie is survived by his wife: Denise Shindelar, Chester, IA. Two children: Chris (Megan) Griffin, Cresco, IA, and Jamie (Lee) Lawson, Virginia Beach, VA. Three step-children: Michelle (Ben) Leibold, Decorah, IA, Daryl Farley, Decorah, IA, and Kelli (Rick) Ohm, Fredericksburg, IA. Grandchildren: Jared, Joanna, & Janessa Griffin; Jamie’s two puppies: Ellie and Dante; Anastasia, Ciarra and Brantley Leibold; Addyson, Aiden & Alissa Farley; and Phillip, Trevor & Bo Ohm.
