Audrey "Toots" Schroeder

Audrey “Toots” Schroeder, age 71, of Ossian, IA, died on Monday, June 18, 2012, at her home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 418 East Main Street, Ossian, IA, with Monsignor Cletus Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, 418 East Main St., Ossian, IA. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. at the church. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Winneshiek County Cancer Chapter Relay for Life, 306 – 5th Street, Decorah, IA 52101 or the Winneshiek Medical Center Foundation, 901 Montgomery St., Decorah, IA 52101. Audrey “Toots” (Funke) Schroeder was born on February 1, 1941, the daughter of Joseph H. and Leona (Hageman) Funke in Ossian, IA. “Toots” graduated from De sales Catholic High School and Upper Iowa University. On July 18, 1964, “Toots” married Karl Schroeder at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. For many years she was an elementary school teacher, teaching in the Mt. Prospect, IL School System and the C.F.S. Catholic School System. Throughout the years, “Toots” was active in school organizations, local community clubs, church and she started the “Toots” Clothes Rack at Schroeder’s Clothing. Audrey is survived by her husband: Karl Schroeder, Ossian, IA. One son: Troy Schroeder, Las Vegas, NV. One daughter: Trenny (Mike) Wilson, St. Joseph, MO. Three grandchildren: Mariah, Sarah and Colton Wilson, St. Joseph, MO. Two sisters: Elaine (Van) Kemp, Gurnee, IL, and Catherine (Robert M.) Reilly, Ossian, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Gerald (Marilyn) Johnson, New Hampton, IA, and Steven (Ann) Schroeder, Ferryville, MO. One sister-in-law: DeAnn (Elmer) Hemesath, Ossian, IA., along with many nieces and nephews. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Leona (Hageman) Funke. Her father and mother-in-law: William and Catherine Schroeder. Sister: Marilyn Johnson. Brother-in-law: Van Kemp.
