Arthur Otters, age 85, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday and after 9:30 a.m., on Saturday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, in Fort Atkinson, IA. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m., on Friday at the funeral home. Arthur Merle Otters was born on June 21, 1926, the son of Mathias and Hannah (Sattler) Otters, near Jackson Junction, Iowa, on the family farm. Art attended school in Waucoma and was united in marriage to Catherine Norkin on September 25, 1948, in Penn, PA. Arthur spent his entire life working on the family farm. He enjoyed the farm life, tinkering with machinery, woodworking projects and spending time with his family. Art was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA. Arthur is survived by his five children: Kathleen (Vince) Douglas, Arlington, TX; Arthur Otters, Jr., New Hartford, IA; William (Deb) Otters, Lawler, IA; Robert (Rose) Otters, Fredericksburg, IA; and Ronald Otters, New Hampton, IA; along with eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. One sister-in-law: Marie Cima, Corfu, New York. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents: Mathias and Hannah Otters. His wife of forty-six years: Catherine Otters on April 10, 1994. One sister: Lucille (Irvin) Holder.
