Arthur "Art" Huber

     Art Huber, age 100, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, IA.        Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 201 Oak Street, Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.        Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, and also after 9:00 a.m., on Thursday morning at the Schluter- Balik Funeral Home Chekal Chapel, 201 Main Street in Ft. Atkinson, IA. There will be a rosary at 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday.        Arthur Francis Huber was born on April 6, 1915, in Fort Atkinson, IA, the son of Joseph and Ida (Chizek) Huber. Art graduated from St. John's Catholic School and Fort Atkinson High School. He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he played varsity baseball and was a member of the Fighting Irish Marching Band. He majored in accounting and graduated with honors in 1936. Art worked for six years at the Chevrolet plant in Cincinnati, OH. He moved his family to Fort Atkinson in 1945 and continued the family tradition of operating Huber’s Store, where his son Don is currently the fourth generation owner. Art was united in marriage to Vivian Moser on August 12, 1940 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. They were the parents of five children: Joe, Cathy, Tom, Don and Bill. Art was a charter member of the South Winn Country Club and helped with the initial land purchase. He played with the Fort Atkinson Community band for sixty years, and was treasurer of the St. Anthony of Padua Chapel (Smallest Church) near Festina. Art was always a sports enthusiast, loved to play golf, enjoyed fishing, and always rooted for Notre Dame Football. Art was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, the Catholic Order Of Foresters, and the Fort Atkinson Businessmen’s Association.       Art is survived by his five children: Joe (Nancy) Huber, Palo Alto, CA; Cathy (Duane) Kuennen, Dubuque, IA; Tom Huber, Fort Atkinson, IA; Don Huber, Fort Atkinson, IA; and Bill (Jane) Huber, Cedar Rapids, IA. Six grandchildren: David Huber, Matthew Huber, Mike (Karyn) Kuennen, Rob Kuennen, Christy (James) Willis and Sara Huber. Six great grandchildren: Josh, Adam, Isabella, & Maddy Kuennen; Ethan & Kate Willis. A sister-in-law, Mildred Hemesath, Cedar Rapids, IA, and brother-in-law, Danny (Mary) Moser, Fort Atkinson, IA.      Art was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Ida (Chizek) Huber, his wife Vivian in 1984, and brother Virgil in 1989.       In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to St. Anthony of Padua Chapel (Smallest Church) near Festina, IA, P.O.
