Arnold Havel

Arnold Havel, age 91, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 30, 2009, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar and after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Friday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00 at the funeral home on Thursday. Arnold Thomas Havel was born on March 2, 1918, the son of John and Agnes (Barloon) Havel, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Arnold attended grade school at St. Aloysius Catholic School in Calmar. He worked at Bucheit Produce for a short time. Arnold married Helen Svoboda on June 18, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, Iowa. He then started Havel Plumbing and Heating and operated that until he retired in 1980. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and his family. Arnold was a member of the Calmar Volunteer Fire Department, Calmar Lions Club, Calmar Commercial Club and St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Arnold survivors include his wife: Helen Havel, Calmar, IA. Three sons: Larry (Marcia) Havel, Osage, IA; Robert (Sara) Havel, Fairfax, IA; and Charles Havel, Hiawatha, IA. Ten grandchildren: Todd (Brenda) Havel, Troy (Kori) Havel, Jeff (Jessie) Havel, Kris (Kip) Peters, Melissa (Darin) Tussler, Jason (Michelle) Havel, Lisa Havel, Stacey Hauskins, Tracey (Daniel) Klees, and Jenny Havel. Twenty two great grandchildren: Tyler, Collin, Kelsey, Nathan, Travis, Shannon, Lewis, Braylon, Blayze, Brynley, Brianna, Maggie, Drew, Kaily, Liberty, Delaney, Danielle, Caeden, Jillian, Jacob, Jalica and Jackson. One brother: Richard (Carolyn) Havel, Calmar, IA. Six sisters-in-law: Alice Havel, Minneapolis, MN; Irene Cervenka, Fort Atkinson, IA; Gertrude Boddicker, Blairstown, IA; Mary Ann (Bob) Bader, Protivin, IA; Agnes (Ronald) Dostal, Protivin, IA; and Mary Svoboda, Protivin, IA. One brother-in-law: James Svoboda, Santa Monica, CA. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents: John and Agnes (Barloon) Havel. Two brothers: John Havel and Edward Havel. Two great grandchildren: Alex and Domminick. Four brothers-in-law: Raymond Svoboda, Leonard Cervenka, David Boddicker and Raymond Svoboda.
