Arlyne E. Kurash, age 88, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Harvey Abrahmson officiating. Burial will be in the Calmar City Cemetery, Calmar, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, in Calmar, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. Arlyne E. (Reisner) Kurash was born on January 27, 1918, on the family farm east of Calmar, Iowa to Alvin S. and Anna M. (Gunderson) Reisner. Arlyne received her education at a Country School near their farm. She married Richard Kurash on October 15, 1940. They continued living on the farm in partnership with her father. Arlyne was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar, where she was secretary of the Ladies Aid for many years. She was an avid worker for her church. Arlyne enjoyed sewing, crocheting and the outdoors. She also loved to send greetings for all occasions to friends and relatives, near and far. Hallmark Cards even sent Arlyne a birthday card, after all the years of her sending out their cards. Arlyne is survived by many nieces, nephews and great, great great nieces and nephews. One Aunt: Madonna Reisner, Calmar, IA. Arlyne was preceded in death by her mother, Anna in 1935; her father, Alvin in 1978; her husband, Richard in 1997; her sister: Myrtle Reisner on February 10, 2006; her grandparents: Henry & Martha Reisner and Peter & Margaret Gunderson, besides many uncles, aunts and cousins.
