Arlene Moen, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa died on Friday, November 9, 2007 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2007, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church by Rev. Allen E. Hermeier. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Friends may call from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Monday. Arlene Olga Juliet Moen was born on October 16, 1923 the daughter of Julius and Olga (Rosendahl) Rude in rural Decorah, Iowa. Arlene attended Nerlie country school in Springfield Township. She was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She married Clarence Moen on November 11, 1941 at the First Lutheran Parsonage in Decorah, Iowa. To this union, two children were born: Gail and Orlando. They farmed in Glenwood Township and then moved to Madison Township for a short time. They moved to Decorah in 1963. Arlene worked at Wapsie Produce for twenty-five years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and the Hope Ladies Aide. Arlene’s survivors include her two granddaughters: Lori Iseli & husband Arthur, Waukon, IA and Barbara Thorstenson & husband Brad, Waukon, IA and One grandson: Robert Moen, and wife Dena, Burr Oak, IA. Five great grandchildren: Mitchell & Daniel Iseli, Jessica & Rebecca Thorstenson and Ethan James Moen. One son-in-law: Bob Snell, Canton, MN. One daughter-in-law: Donna Moen, Ossian, IA. One sister: Helen Borseth, Decorah, IA. One brother: Curtis Rude & wife Martha, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: Kermit Mestad, Decorah, IA. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Clarence in 1998; one son: Orlando “Slim” Moen in 2000; one daughter: Gail Snell, in 2004; one grandson in infancy: Orlando Clarence Moen, Jr. in 1967; two sisters: Norma Mestad and Cora Moen; two brothers: Howard & Roger Rude; one niece: Arla Snitker and one nephew, Harlan Nesset. One sister-in-law: Gladys Rude. One brother-in-law: Norman Moen.
