Ardith M. Flatland

Ardith M. Flatland, age 91, of Cresco, IA, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco. Ardith Madonna Flatland was born on May 23, 1924 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of William B. and Olga Marie (Ellingson) Malli. She was a 1943 graduate of Decorah High School. She was united in marriage with Harold I. Flatland on October 19, 1944 in New York City, New York. They were blessed with seven children in their 62 years of marriage. Harold and Ardith farmed in the Kendallville area most of their lives. Ardith worked at the Harmony Nursing home for 25 years until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, crocheting, reading and quilting. Ardith is survived by her seven children: Harold (Glenice Rhodas) Flatland of Cresco, IA, Zina (Dennis) Dotzler of Cedar Rapids, IA, Barb Diane Lucas of Rochester, MN, Myrna (Larry Smith) Flatland of Minneapolis, MN, Sally (Peter) Harris of Afton, MN, Deb Rasmussen of Spillville, IA, and Angela (Ted) Martinez of Tucson, AZ; 12 grandchildren; Rayna, Tami, Christal, Nikki, Jason, Josh, Emily, Vanessa, Isaac, Ian, Olivia, and Cody; and 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Monica) Malli of Cresco, IA ; five sisters, Evelyn Johnson of Canton, MN, Sharon (Desi) de Escabar of Middlebury, CT, Ruthie (Bernie) Hutchinson of Scottsdale, AZ, Arlene (Tom) Greenslade of Lima, MT, and Olga (Jerry) Sauer of Chandler, AZ. Ardith was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on April 14, 2007; a daughter-in-law, Susan Ball-Flatland; her parents, Olga and Bill; a sister, Betty Begley, and brother, Mickey. A celebration of her life will be held on May 22, 2016 at Harold's farm.
