Alvira "Skip" Huinker

Alvira “Skip” Huinker, age 71 of Calmar, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City, IA. A private family service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. The service will be livestreamed on https://www.facebook.com/CFOSparishes Memorials may be made to the family of Skip Huinker at PO Box 561, Calmar, IA 52132 Alvira Helen (Koshatka) Huinker was born on October 27, 1948 the daughter of Harry and Marcella (Hosek) Koshatka in Cresco, IA. She graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco. Alvira married Steve Huinker on October 12, 1968 and together they had two children: Brian and Jerry. She previously worked for Deco in Decorah, Northern Engraving in Spring Grove and most recently nineteen years at Atwood in West Union. She enjoyed camping, socializing with friends and family and her beloved dachshunds. Skip was a member of the Curves in Decorah and considered all of them dear friends and a second family to her. Skip also enjoyed shopping with friends to find bargains, playing slots, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Steve. Sons: Brian Huinker, Calmar, IA and Jerry (Kathy) Huinker, Tipton, IA. Grandchildren: Brandon and Brittany. Brother: Alvin Koshatka, Cresco, IA. Brother and sisters-in-law: Gary (Doris) Huinker, Ossian, IA; Jody (Gerald) Winter, Monona, IA and Vernelle (Terry) Throndson, Ft. Atkinson, IA.
