Alvin Tupy

     Alvin Tupy, age 90, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Wellington Place, in Decorah, IA.      Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the St. John’s Catholic Church, 201 Oak Street,  in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, IA.      Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson and also after 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a scripture service at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday evening.      Alvin William Tupy was born on August 6, 1925, the son of William and Viola (Huber) Tupy, on the farm near Fort Atkinson, IA. Alvin attended country school and St. John’s Catholic School. He farmed with his family before entering the Army. He served in Germany from 1950 through 1952. Alvin returned to Iowa and farmed with his family until retiring in 1990. Alvin always cared deeply for the land and conserving the wild flowers. He was active all of his life and was known for having a great memory. He could always remember family history, dates and recipes. Alvin enjoyed making wine and caring for his animals. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with everyone. He was never one to complain about anything. Alvin was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, the Turkey River VFW Post #3902 and the Huber Steffes American Legion Post #672.      Alvin is survived by his three siblings: Linus (Rose) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA; Doris (friend, Philip Severson) Engen, Decorah, IA; and George (Shirley) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA. Nieces and nephews: Norma (Jim) Coolidge, Eau Claire, WI; Pat (Ron) Krivachek, Fort Atkinson, IA; Judy (Joe) Kuisle, Stewartville, MN; Donna (Bruce) Meyer, Goodhue, MN; Bob (Joan) Tupy, Calmar, IA; Gary Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA; Sharon (Dave) Hackman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Larry (Donna Quam) Engen, Decorah, IA; Dale Engen, Ridgeway, IA; Mary (Ron) Teslow, Decorah, IA; and Greg (Lisa) Engen, Decorah, IA, along with many great nieces and nephews.      Alvin was preceded in death by his parents: William and Viola (Huber) Tupy. Brother: Donald Tupy. Brother-in-law: Gordon Engen. Two nephews: Tom Engen and Jim Tupy. One great nephew: Zach Wisher.
