Alice E. (Guttormson) Larson, 89, of Cedar Rapids, IA and formerly of Decorah, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, in The Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Pastor Kay Slocum of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation begins on Thursday at 10:00 A.M., one hour before the service, at Fjelstul Funeral Home. A reception will be held following the service. Alice Edna (Guttormson) Larson was born November 1, 1921 in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Guttorm and Palma (Qualley) Guttormson. She graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1939 and then attended Luther College for two years, receiving her teaching certificate. Alice taught rural school from the late 1940s through the mid-1950s in the Decorah area. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1957 and worked at Rockwell Collins for nearly 30 years. She married Louis Larson and they later divorced. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and volunteering at Mercy Hospital, Witwer Senior Center and the public library in Cedar Rapids. She was very active and also enjoyed reading. Alice is survived by two daughters and 10 grandchildren: a daughter, Linda of Chappel, NE and her four sons: Billy Beam, Brad (Evelyn) Beam, Darrance (Katie) Beam and K.J. (Allysa) Beam; a daughter, Marcia of Cedar Rapids, IA and her six children: Aaron (Shannon) Sisco, Brandi (Andy) Maas, Casey (Dustin) Wendt, Mindy Sisco, McKenzie (Jody Stickles) Sisco and Dawn (Mark) Schneider; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Spilde of Decorah; and an ex-son-in-law, Richard Sisco, Jr. of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Helen Guttormson, Leona Hilberg and Helen Kuntz; and by her brother, Robert Guttormson.
