Alice Kurash

Alice Kurash, age 82, of Spillville, IA died on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Barthell O.E.S Home in Decorah, IA.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Calmar Lutheran Church in Calmar, IA with Rev. Anita Nuetzman presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Calmar Lutheran Church, 200 East Street, in Calmar and also after 10:00 a.m., at the Church on Tuesday morning. Alice May (Falck) Kurash was born on August 12, 1935 the daughter of Fred and Verna (Davis) Falck in rural Winneshiek County. She graduated from Cresco High School. Alice married Stanley Kurash on April 12, 1956 at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco. They were the parents of six children: Allan, Steven, Sandra, Rhonda, Arleen and Karen. She and Stanley farmed and raised their family on the Kurash family farm near Jackson Junction. Alice also worked in dietary services at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital from 1992 until her retirement in 2005. In 2000, she moved to her home in Spillville. Alice loved spending time with her family-especially gatherings when everyone could be together, fishing, playing cards, family camping weekends, polka music, and Spillville senior bingo. Alice is survived by her six children: Allan (Teresa) Kurash, Fort Atkinson, IA; Steve (Marianne) Kurash, New Hampton, IA; Sandra (Paul) DeSloover, Lawler, IA; Rhonda (Brad) Peterson, Decorah, IA; Arleen (Dave) Orvis, Calmar, IA and Karen (Doug) Balk, Lawler, IA. Grandchildren: Emily (friend Dave Casey) Kurash, Ross (fiancée Cassie Gentz) Kurash, Ashley Kurash, Amber (Steven) Kurash, Ryan Kurash, Brian (Ashley) DeSloover, Nichole (Andrew) Hageman, Brandon (Jenny) Peterson, Bryce (Sarah) Peterson, Sasha (friend John Martinez) Peterson, Michelle (fiancé Adam Brincks) Orvis, Kaitlyn Orvis, Bode Balk and Bree Balk. Great grandchildren: Braden, Kiley and Kolten Peterson, Ayden and Raegan Peterson, Addalyn and Kaden Nesbitt, and Laken Alice Kurash. Siblings: Evelyn Schnitzler, Howard (Marlys) Falck, Norma (Louis) Albertson, Janice Broghammer and Linda (Galen) Huhe. Aunt Helen Davis and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1985. Parents: Fred and Verna (Davis) Falck. Father and mother-in-law: Adolph and Anna (Fisher) Kurash. Brother: Vernon (Maxine) Falck. Brothers-in-law: John Broghammer and John Schnitzler.
