Alice Mary Klimesh, 90, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on April 24, 2025. She was born on February 9, 1935, on the family farm four miles outside of St. Lucas, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Julia Kriener. Alice met her future husband at an uncle’s gathering. She said, “I met him when he came to visit Pete Kriener’s farm with his sister, Greta, who was going with Peter’s son Hermie. He, Glen, must have liked what he saw because he asked me on a date and we were together from then on.” On September 14, 1954, at the St. Lucas Catholic Church, she married Glen Klimesh, who grew up on a farm between Protivin and Spillville, Iowa. The newly married couple settled on the farm he was born on and a year and a half later moved to the farm she lived on for the rest of her life. A self-proclaimed “tomboy”, she helped with every aspect of the farming and proudly maintained her “Farmer” tax status until the day she left us. There they raised ten children, instilling the combination of love and hard work. Alice was renowned for her cooking. Everyone learned to arrive at Grandma’s with an empty stomach! Alice was everyone’s “Grandma” and her greatest gift was her ability to see, love, and accept everyone for who they were. She always found a way to make each person feel important and special. She truly was a saint among us.
Alice’s survivors include: Three daughters: Glenda (Dr. Kelly) Ross, Arla Klimesh, and Jan (Randy) Samuelson; Seven sons: Lyle (Bertha) Klimesh, Keith Klimesh, Ronnie (Janice) Klimesh, Loren (Sue) Klimesh, Stac (Karen) Klimesh, Kurt (Kristie) Klimesh and Kent Klimesh; Twenty-eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosalia Pickar; Sister-in-laws: Marilyn Kriener, Gloria Klimesh, Shirley Klimesh, Mary Klimesh and brother-in-laws, Gabe Klimesh, and Gary Klimesh
