Alice Houdek

Alice Houdek, age 94, of Decorah, Iowa died on Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa following a long illness. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Gary Krapfl. Burial will be in the St. Benedict's cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home and until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. Alice L. Houdek was born on August 9, 1910 in Calmar, Iowa the daughter of Amil and Delia (Novak) Reazak. Alice graduated from Charles City High School. She married Jerome “Romey” Houdek on November 28, 1929 in Decorah, Iowa. Together they lived in Fort Atkinson and then later moved to Decorah. Alice enjoyed shopping, fishing, knitting and sewing and cooking. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and church circle. Alice’s survivors include her two sons: Dean Houdek & wife Anna, Spillville, IA and David Houdek & wife Barbara, Decorah, IA. Eight grandchildren: Connie Hillesland, Decorah, IA; Beth (Adrian) Novak, LaCrosse, WI; Jolene (Randy) Aasum, Caledonia, MN; Andrew (Ramona) Houdek, Ft. Atkinson, IA; Eric (Julie) Houdek, New Hampton, IA; Tim Houdek, Decorah, IA and Dawn Walz, Stacy, MN. Sixteen great grandchildren: Megan, Amy, Sarah, Heather, Anthony, Bridget, Ben, Neil, Nathan, Chad, Lucas, Mathias, Andrew, Caitlyn, Jacob and Danielle. One great great granddaughter: Janae. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerome; two grandsons: Daniel Houdek in 1982 and Kent Houdek in 1994; one sister: Arzela Klimesh and one brother: Cliff Reazak.
