Alice Dow, age 89, of Laramie, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Church Creek Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights, IL, following a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday morning until 10:00 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa. There will be a CDA Rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Alice Mildred (Casey) Dow was born on March 3, 1919, the daughter of William and Sarah Ellen (Feltis) Casey in Decorah, Iowa. Alice graduated from Decorah High School in 1936, and was the valedictorian of her class. She taught rural country school near Decorah. Alice married Leonard Dow on May 22, 1940, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa. Alice enjoyed needlework, sewing and growing wonderful flower and vegetable gardens. Above all, Alice was devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Alice was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Benedict’s Rosary Society. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, in Decorah, IA; St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Burlington, IA, and active at St. Paul’s Newman Center in Laramie, WY. Alice is survived by her two daughters: Jean (Richard) Sipe, Bethesda, MD and Carol O’Connor, Schaumburg, IL. Three sons: Robert (Pamela) Dow, West Burlington, IA, Wayne (Elaine) Dow, Altoona, IA and Richard (Rita) Laramie, WY. Ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One sister: Helen Thune, Ft. Dodge, IA. Alice was preceded in death by her parents: William and Sarah Casey. Her husband: Leonard Dow in 1992. One son-in-law: Michael O’Connor. One sister: Catherine Pankow.
