Albert Zweibahmer

Albert Zweibahmer, age 83, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa, following a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning. There will be a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Albert Clarence Zweibahmer was born on August 27, 1925, the son of Louis and Sophia (Kapell) Zweibahmer near Ossian, Iowa. Albert graduated from South Winn High School in 1943. Albert served during World War II, in Okinawa and the South Pacific. He married Doris Warthan on February 9, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa. He returned to Calmar and was a lineman for Interstate Power Company, now Alliant Energy, for forty-three years. Albert was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Halverson-Giesen American Legion Post #266. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Calmar Fire Dept., and was a member of the IBEW for sixty years. Albert’s survivors include his daughter: Bonnie (Jim) Shippy, Dubuque, IA. Three sons: Steve (Susan) Zweibahmer, Plattsmouth, NE; Edward (Karen) Zweibahmer, Michigan City, IN and Dave (Robin) Zweibahmer, Calmar, IA. Six grandchildren: Shelley (Trent) Stempek, Sabrina (Corey) Parriott, Stephanie (Steven) Balwanz, Joshua (fiancé, Colleen Jones) Shippy, Jacob Shippy, and Donna (friend, John Michener) Zweibahmer. Seven great grandchildren. One sister: Evelyn Secora, Fort Atkinson, IA. Albert was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Sophia (Kapell) Zweibahmer. His wife: Doris Zweibahmer on Oct. 3, 2003. Three sisters: Luella (Chuck) Cooper, Eleanor (Clarence) Kapler, Roselyn (Norman) Poshusta. Two brothers: Ted (Lillie) Zweibahmer and Hermit (Janet) Zweibahmer. Two brothers-in-law: Dillon “Bud” Warthan and Bernell Secora.
